Historical Romance
Rating: 5 Cups
Lady Maura Daventry’s first ball of the London season is a disaster, but what else should she have expected after the scandal of her deceased mother’s escapades? Maura also has another reason for putting her best foot forward and going to all the proper balls and dances; Maura is looking for a murderer. When one of Maura’s missions gets her into trouble, she finds her savior is none other than Gabriel Sutcliffe, the Earl of Hawksley, also referred as the Devils Own.
Gabriel Sutcliffe lived with his deceased fathers gossip; rumors of the late Earl of Hawksley killing the Lady Elise Daventry in a rage of passion, and turning the gun on himself. He survived it. All the while letting the fine people of London believe what they would, and at times proving them right. Now it seems, Gabriel is constantly saving Maura from one dangerous peril or another. Gabriel is totally enchanted with Maura and cannot seem to get her out of his mind.
It seems a coincidence that Gabriel appears in the same places as Maura, but it is not. Gabriel knows Maura is up to something, and it seems to be very dangerous after he reads the note. Maura has found her mom’s diary, which proves that her mother and Gabriel’s father were murdered. Maura is falling in love with Gabriel, but she is keeping secrets. Can Maura find the last bit of truth before she is hurt, or worse, killed? And will the secrets of the diary pull Maura and Gabriel together, or drive them apart.
An absolute treasure. This is the most exciting and compelling historical I have read in a long time. Ms. Logan has penned a story that not only involves your senses and emotions, but your mind as well. This reader was constantly trying to figure out the who and the why, while following the romance between the hero and heroine. Steady intense dialogue, along with incredible characters, keeps your emotions enthralled while the steamy love scenes keep your senses alive. Second in the series, it stands alone easily. This reader is anxiously awaiting the next book. Historical lovers will not want to miss this book.
