Eliza May is through with men. She seems to attract emotionally damaged ones. She helps heal their spirits so that they can marry someone else. They even invite her to the weddings! To distance herself from her latest failed romance, she takes a temporary position in a small hospital in the bush.
Doctor Jack Dancer lost his wife and unborn child three years before. Since then, he has buried himself in his work. When his good friend and matron must take maternity leave, Eliza is the agency nurse sent to fill in. He immediately falls for the woman he thinks looks like an angry fairy, but she will have nothing to do with yet another emotionally damaged man.
A doctor and a fill-in nurse meet and fall in love at a busy and remote bush hospital in Australia. They must overcome both of their pasts and prejudices, while caring for the inhabitants of a small community.
This is an entertaining and quick read. The inhabitants of Bellbrook are wonderfully described, and quirky, as is the bush country of Australia. The medical terminology of another country is easy to follow. Jack and Eliza are very vivid and sympathetic characters whom the reader will warm to immediately.
