Georgia Winton is a certified midwife with a beautiful new baby girl, and a horrific ex-husband. Her daughter is her life, and she will do anything it takes to keep her safe; including marrying a man she hardly knows.

Dr. Max Beresford is an obstetrician in need of a wife. His first prospect fills him with dread, but delivering Georgia’s baby on his wedding day is a godsend. Georgia is everything he could want in a wife, and she may just be his saving grace.

Georgia is terrified her ex is going to take her daughter Elsa away. His past threats and abuse give her every reason to fear he is telling her the truth. When Max offers her the opportunity for a safe haven as his wife, she takes it. She just needs to get her life back in order, and living with Max will afford her that time. The completely platonic deal they make to remain married for one year is killing both of them. Max and Georgia are both falling desperately in love, but neither is willing to share their feelings. Georgia refuses to put Max or his career in danger, and Max knows he can never give Georgia more children. However, Max is determined to be the man in Georgia and Elsa’s life if he can convince her to trust in them.

This story is one of desperation and the unconditional love we have for our children; a love that drives us to protect them no matter the cost. Ms. McArthur nails that feeling perfectly. Her characters are heartwarming and really endear themselves to the reader. I absolutely adore Max’s character. He is witty, fun, and a real hero to Georgia and Elsa. This is a lovely read, and well worth your time.
