Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, is known as one of London’s most notorious rakes. In a drunken stupor on his twenty-fifth birthday, he wagers he can seduce a prim and proper virtuous woman complete with intercourse. But not just any woman, it has to be a lady of the ton who is also morally correct in her ventures and her virtue.

Katherine Huxtable is known for her naïve and innocent demeanor and mannerisms. Warned repeatedly to stay away from Jasper by family and friends alike only adds to her curiosity about exactly who this supposed rake is. So, on a beautiful night out with friends and family, Katherine walks into the Vauxhall gardens with a certain notorious rake and almost gets seduced.

Three years have passed since Katherine has set eyes upon Jasper and now it seems everywhere she turns, he is right there waiting for her. As a genteel lady, she should be casting aspersions on him and setting him in his proper place. Instead she keeps remembering the passion he ignited in her body and how he stopped the seduction before it could become ruinous to her good name. When scandal erupts around Jasper and Katherine, they must marry, and she makes a wager of her own that just might change their lives forever.

Ms. Balogh has done it once again with her sharp wording and witty characters. Then Comes Seduction is a good old-fashioned historical romance that almost has an I Love Lucy comedic background. Katherine is the prim and proper lady who laughs when she finds herself being seduced for a wager, and Jasper is the typical rake who does not want to be married but finds himself wagering to do exactly that. The back and forth verbal sparring the main characters engage in is hilarious, and you have to read it just to see what will happen next. A great read for any historical lovers and fans of Ms. Balogh alike!
