Colin Eversea is a rascal and cad. The irresponsible, handsome rogue has been sentenced to be hanged for murder and the only witness has disappeared. Just when he believes his life is about to be over, he cheats fate when a mercenary comes to his rescue.

Madeline Greenway is on a mission that will allow her to go to America. She must kidnap Colin and in doing so, will be rewarded handsomely. When the real truth comes out, Madeline learns she might be the one in danger instead of Colin.

Colin has spent his life trying to impress his brothers and win his father’s admiration, only to find himself about to be hanged. The woman he loves is set to wed his brother, Marcus. It seems his luck is about to change when chaos erupts at the gallows and a sack is placed over his head, and he is whisked away. Not knowing who might have risked their life to snatch him, the smell of lavender triggers his nose. Madeline has been paid to liberate Colin. She needs money for America. The ship will take her to Virginia, to a life she has planned for some time. After her plan fails, and it appears someone wishes her dead, Colin offers help. He assures that his family is wealthy, and will pay for his rescue. Still someone would rather have Colin alive and Madeline dead. The only way to find out who is behind the mischief is to become allies. While facing peril, their passion ensues like a sizzling fire but Madeline knows his love lies with another and does not know if she can compete with his first love, as the perils of pleasure engulf them each day.

I found this a fast moving story that just engulfs the reader with every page. Colin and Madeline are a dynamite duo and their interactions are fantastic. With warm, sizzling romance, the two light up a room as soon as they enter. The Perils of Pleasure heats with just the right amount of danger, sensual passion and splendid banter to entice the reader. Julie Anne Long pens a historical romance with an ambiance that propels the reader into the era. The way she captures the essence of the characters emotions is exhilarating. Her writing story is quite elegant and robust. I look forward to reading of more of her well-designed novels.
