Janaan 'Jay' Latimer is trying to find herself. She is also trying to learn more about the father who left her and her mother because he was already married. Traveling to his country of Damhoor seems the best way to do that, but as she is leaving, she suddenly decides to apply with the Global Aid Organization and gets the job. As a doctor, she knows there are people that need help and this seemed like the ideal job for her.
Malek Aal Hamdaan is the heir to the throne of Damhoor. He knows that he must take the throne upon his father's death and he also knows that he will have no choice in choosing his bride. When his drivers cause an accident, it turns out the passenger is none other than the doctor he was on his way to interview. Seeing her in action, he knows she will be perfect for the job.
Malek is attracted to Jay from the very beginning. He knows he should not lead her on and he should stay away from her. His duties to his kingdom come first. Jay fights the feelings that swamp her when she is in his presence, but cannot help herself when he kisses her. She knows that nothing can come of what is between them and throws herself into her work. When Malek tells her he will have no further contact with her, she is heartbroken, but when she saves his life, they both realize they can no longer fight their feelings. When Malek's father passes and he tells his advisors that he is going to marry Jay, threats of war emerge. Jay leaves him knowing their love would only cause him more stress. Will Malek do what is expected or will he go after Jay?
This book takes the reader on one heck of a journey. Ms. Gates has successfully captured the feeling of trying to find one's self after a lifetime of not knowing exactly who you are. Jay is a strong character and I could not help but applaud her efforts to begin her life anew. Malek is dedicated and loyal to a fault. I will be reading this book again and I am sure I will be cheering them on in their quest for happiness and love. I highly recommend this book.
