Maybe if Hailey Winters keeps telling everyone she is fine, she might actually begin to believe it herself. It has been a long, hard road since losing Paul and little Eric, but she feels like she is finally getting her life back.
Cancer is a vicious and indiscriminate killer, and Dr. Callum Craig knows firsthand how it can change your life in the blink of an eye. He lost his wife only months after their son was born, and four years later his son Tom was diagnosed with leukemia.
The last thing Hailey wants to do is get involved with another single dad, but fate has a way of taking the decision right out of your hands. She aches every time she thinks of Eric’s death and Paul’s rejection and blame, but despite this, Tom has made himself quite at home in her life. This beautiful little boy scrambling his way back from the brink of death, and his wonderful father are quickly taking over her heart. Callum is simply one of the best, but after Paul, the thought of losing Callum and Tom is a risk she is not sure she will ever be able to take.
Amy Andrews knows how to cut right to the heart of her readers, and it does not take a parent to know the indescribable terror one must feel for a sick child. Tom is an absolute joy, and Callum and Hailey draw you into their lives with such vivaciousness that you are laughing and crying right along with them. Although at one point I was disillusioned with Hailey and her indecisiveness, the dynamics in this story are first rate. It really makes you count your blessings, and realize that what you take for granted can easily be gone in a heartbeat.
