Ophelia Jensen is a librarian in a small town, single mother of a precocious teenage daughter, and a psychic witch. She has been having some very erotic dreams about a blonde stranger.
Stephen Larsen is a famous writer of crime exposés. His latest work is, as usual, secret and controversial, and someone wants to stop him from writing it.
The library fundraiser is usually not the most exciting affair, but this year an aspiring congressman and a famous writer are among the guests. Ophelia feels an immediate and very strong attraction to Stephen Larsen, the author, whom she has been seeing in her dreams for some time. Just when things are getting interesting, Stephen is shot. Ophelia’s sleuthing instincts and guilty feelings make her determined to find the culprit.
I really loved the characters of this story. Abby, Ophelia, and Tink are a wonderful trio of witches of different generations, each with different talents. I also liked how the author interwove the mystery of the present with Ophelia’s visions of the past. That subplot was as enthralling as the main story line. The main part of the mystery is interesting, topical, and full of intrigue and suspense. You will not be able to put this one down.
