Sabrina Swago is a young consultant and trainer for a prestigious Chicago firm. She lives and breathes her job because it demands 90% traveling on assignments, and living out of hotels. Sabrina rarely gets to relax or even take time to date, much less live in her own home.

Aaron Martin is a neighbor to Sabrina and lives with his wife Natalie. Ever since moving in the summer before, he has been fascinated by Sabrina. Aaron is interested in becoming friends and getting closer to her, especially since he is going through the divorce process.

Sabrina lives across from Aaron, who is married, yet she fantasizes about making love with him despite her surviving an abusive ex-husband. Meanwhile, Aaron is divorcing his psychotic wife who has attempted suicide and self abuse to stop him from leaving her. Determined to start a new life, he decides to ask Sabrina out and see if it will develop into something more meaningful.

I love the complexities in this tale. On the surface it is your nice guy wanting to start over with the girl next door whom he adores. Add in a cheating and jealous soon to be ex-wife who will stop at nothing short of murder to stop her divorce. Then we have our busy, single, black female making it in the corporate world, yet lacking a love life since her bitter divorce years earlier. We find that people hide their true selves behind masks; these include abusive drinkers, jealous coworkers, insane neighbors, and dysfunctional parents. This gives us a glimpse of real life; from the good and bad, to true love and hate by prejudice, constant job travel and commuting, even learning to trust; not just others, but ourselves about facing the hard truths in our world.
