Amanda Jaffe is working up the ladder as a lawyer. She loves working at her father’s firm. She feels like she is finally gaining ground on moving on with her life. But the past may come back to haunt her. Her last case sent her over the edge, leaving her with horrible nightmares. She needs to get over it and figures that helping someone might just do the trick. She gets a case that it seems no one else wants sent her way and it works. It will certainly test Amanda’s strength and courage while she works through her fears.
Jon Dupre runs an escort service and keeps tapes and records of every client he has. He knows how to cover his tracks and keep people in line. He does not like being accused of something that is not true, but no one believes him. Help comes his way in an unlikely source, and he knows this might be his only chance to prove his innocence. It may not be his first choice, but he is learning to listen to whomever may help him. He has no clue of the power that is behind it all.
Working with Jon was not Amanda’s first choice, but because of certain events, no one else wants to take the case. Amanda stands up to the challenge, even though it could backfire. She is traumatized so she needs a way to heal. Jon cannot believe a woman is taking his case. He feels awful about it, but she actually seems to care about what he says. Amanda will not let go under pressure. Things seem to be happening, people are being killed, and there is no one to help build her case. She knows she has to keep going because she must be close to something. But will she find the answers she needs?
I have been a fan of Mr. Margolin’s work for a long time. This book proved again that he is a master of twists and turns. I did not see them coming at all! At times the book was a little graphic, but it was not detailed. The characters were on both sides, either good or bad. And it surprised me how many lines were crossed in order to get one objective accomplished. This is one thrill ride that you will not soon forget! It also proved that the ties you make could bind you to things you do not want.
