Roslyn is the beauty of the Loring family. After the scandalous behavior of her parents the only offers she received were not honorable ones. After some observation, she has concluded that men love their mistresses more than their wives and she is trying to learn why.
Andrew, Duke of Arden has been pursued by women since his teens. Incredibly handsome and rich, he is equally cynical about love and marriage. But he has a great knowledge of mistresses and their behavior and is drafted into sharing that information with the lovely Roslyn.
Roslyn dreams of marrying and having a family. The scandals surrounding her parents have made this nearly impossible until the marriage of her older sister to the Earl of Danvers. Now it might be possible for her to make a good marriage, but that is not all she wants; Roslyn wants to be loved. She has just the prospect, that is, if the Duke of Arden will step aside.
This is one incredibly gripping series, I loved the first and if possible, the second is better. I loved Roslyn’s analytical personality and her dismissal of her looks and I was half in love with Drew before I finished reading the first hundred pages. Their tempestuous and sensual relationship will keep you reading late into the night. The subplots of Winifred and her late husband’s infidelity and Lily’s less than respectable branch of their ladies’ academy add much to the plot. Once again Ms. Jordan has given us two intriguing and multilayered characters, both with reasons not to want to fall in love with each other, but unable to help themselves. Roslyn has a plan, but Arden is not her object, which makes him more determined to have her, which just starts the fun. This is definitely going on my keeper shelf.
