The Horseman
Mandy Morris is a television producer from Los Angeles. Her next project is to find a small town and use it to make the next award winning reality show. In her opinion, Pigeon Hollow is perfect.
A small town horse breeder, Jared Morgan is happy with his mama's pies, old friends, pretty girls, and a nice horse, until Mandy blows into town. Jared wants his hometown to stay the same, and he wants Mandy. Can he have both?
In order to film in his hometown, Mandy needs to get Jared's approval. As one of the largest businessmen in town, she knows that the rest of the town will follow Jared's lead.
Her efforts to do so and their burgeoning love fill this charming story. Mandy and Jared were so well written that I felt as though they could walk out of the pages to meet me. They, and the secondary characters, set a wonderful stage for all three of the stories about Pigeon Hollow.
The Ballplayer
Lizzie Barton has been in love with Cole Ryan for as long as she can remember. Now she has her son by which to remember Cole.
Cole Ryan is bitter when he returns home after ten years because of a career-ending injury. Will he still be interested in Lizzie?
Just before leaving for college on a baseball scholarship, Cole took Lizzie out for her eighteenth birthday. Ten years later, after dropping out of college and losing his career, Cole has returned to Pigeon Hollow.
Cole's reunion with his old friends, Lizzie, and his introduction to his son are both loving and bittersweet. His efforts to convince Lizzie that his behavior is honest, and Lizzie's confusion about loving the man who left her, form the basis of this beautiful story.
The Deputy
Assistant producer Christy Dunne has been shadowing Deputy Sheriff Bobby Barton for the entire run of the reality show being made. She just wishes that he would think of her as more than a pest.
Bobby Barton agrees to Christy shadowing him for that darn reality show, even though he does not have a minute to himself. But why does he care about Christy?
Ms. Johnson uses the old ploy of jealousy to bring Christy and Bobby together, and it works beautifully! This final story of the trilogy wraps up all three love stories.
What a huge amount of fun! I started reading Smalltown, U. S. A and could not put it down until I had finished, laughing throughout much of the book. The trilogy of stories about members of a town called Pigeon Hollow, and their explosive encounters with members of television crews during the filming of a new reality show, is great. There is plenty of sensuous sex and genuine love to keep you glued to the book, and small town life looks very interesting.
