Victoria Hamill has arrived in England on her honeymoon, minus the groom. She has been left at the alter by her fiancé for another woman. Even worse is the fact that the other woman was the photographer they hired for their wedding. So here Victoria is alone, trying to gather her wits before rejoining the world once more.

It is close to the end of the civil war and Captain Sean Fitzgerald is a soldier for the union army. Through the morning fog he catches a glimpse of a beautiful woman. Then he is wounded in battle. He begs his men to take him to the house near where he last saw the mysterious woman who is now haunting his every thought.

Victoria in a fit of drunkenness and depression heads out to the gardens of the quaint cottage she is staying at. Once there she finds she has been transported back in time to the American civil war era. To her surprise she meets a man that and instantly falls in love with him. But how is it possible for her to be in the past, she is a girl from the twenty-first century? How long will these delusions last? Will there be time for her to really experience love or will she find herself utterly alone?

Victory’s Gate is such a wonderful romp into the past. It is a touching story of impossible second chances at love. The author did a great job of portraying the past and present in all its differences. It really helped the believability of the story with the added touch of Victoria’s past experience with civil war life reenactments. Victory’s Gate was a nice surprise. I really enjoyed this story.
