Grace McKenzie is a museum curator who is not interested in finding Mr. Right. All she wishes is to go spend some time with her father. But when she is notified that her ex-fiancé, Steven Hatfield has been murdered, her trip detours to New Hope, Pennsylvania.
Special FBI Agent Matt Baxter is one of the best in the agency. He is on a mission to snatch a culprit who set a bomb off at the US Embassy in Indonesia when the call comes in to return home immediately.
Bernie, a good friend to Steven, knows about art and the Hatfield Gallery, but can he be trusted?
Grace cannot believe that Steven is dead. Who would wish to kill him? She is even more stunned when she hears that he has left his entire art gallery to her. Of course she does not wish the art gallery, which leads to another stipulation in his will. Certain she would deny his gift, he only request that she spend one week at the gallery before making a final decision. Against her better judgment, but out of the love she once held for him, she agrees. Matt cannot believe that his father has been arrested on a bogus murder charge. He sets out to clear him at any costs; with no idea the beautiful woman that crosses his path will supercharge his motor. Grace is surprised to meet the handsome FBI agent. At first they do not really hit it off, and then she decides it would be better to work with him then against him. Who knows, he could end up being her Mr. Right. They soon learn that the small quiet town of New Hope has some buried secrets about to be unveiled. After Grace finds a large sum of unexplained money and a gun, she wonders was Steven involved with drug dealers. No one else usually harbors that much laundered money. She and Matt are certain whoever is behind this knows about the secret no one wishes to make known, yet someone is the town had to have been motivated by greed to kill Steven. As time begins to run out for the both of them, they must locate the mastermind behind the whole scenario before Matt’s dad is framed for Steven’s murder.
Where Truth Lies is a spine tingling, edge of your seat, addictive read. Grace is an excellent character exhibiting strong-will, determination and a heart of gold. Matt is the strong hero who comes across as a great protector with a caring heart. He has a charismatic charm that oozes through the pages. Ms. Heggan pens a mesmerizing read that truly captivated this reader. The secondary characters, with some dastardly villains thrown in, make one sensational read. This is a well written story with an excellent mixture of murder, blackmail, a few buried secrets and sweet romance that is wrapped up in one delightful package. Kudos to Ms. Heggan for a thrilling ride.
