Harry Bronson is a retired Dallas detective. His first case as a detective has haunted him for over twenty years. He is having a great deal of difficulty adjusting to retirement.
Carol Bronson is Harry’s long-suffering spouse. She has cheerfully endured being the wife of an obsessive workaholic cop and is finally getting the vacation she has long deserved.
The Slayers, a group of mystery buffs, are having a conference/convention in a small town in Arizona. Harry Bronson has been hired as their consultant when the regular one is killed. The mystery to be solved is remarkably similar to Harry’s first case; a case he never felt was truly solved. Someone from the past is determined to involve Harry in this murder once again.
This is a well crafted mystery with interesting characters and a well organized plot. Harry and his wife are realistic characters in a slightly bizarre situation. The plot is fairly easy to follow and the mystery not easy to solve. The ending scenes are very tense and suspenseful, with an open ending, leaving an opportunity for Harry to return once again.
