Kate Howard, a receptionist, wishes to be a veterinarian. Working alongside, Scott, a very handsome Australian, piques her interest more while caring for animals.

Errol ‘Scott’ Spencer, a vet, takes care of large animals. He is most intrigued with Kate and would love to know her better but someone stalks from the wings determined to keep him at bay.

Adam Pentecost, Kate’s boyfriend, intends to keep things the way they are with or without Kate’s consent. He does not agree with her going after her dreams.

Bunty Page sets her sight on Scott and is determined to keep him at any costs.

After arriving in Barleybridge, a small village situated in the Yorkshire hills of England, Kate accepts the receptionist job at the Veterinary Hospital. The quaint community is an area where everyone knows their neighbors as sheep graze on the countryside. It is all new to Kate who is a bit reserved and inexperienced about a few things. Kate loves her new job while meeting the people and helping to take care of the animals. She finds a renewed interest with Scott who notices her ambitions immediately. Scott encourages Kate to follow her dreams. He believes her caring devotion would make a good Veterinarian. Throughout their time together a friendship forms into a relationship that Kate would love to pursue but she learns another wishes the same with Scott. The two have much to resolve with their changing lives and those around them but Kate finds she may have more decisions in her lap. With thoughts of Scott possibly never being in her life, she realizes she must make some tough choices before it is too late.

A Country Affair instantly grabbed my attention. The story was so mesmerizing and the landscape absolutely captivating, I felt as if I was in the midst of everything. The secondary figures made such an addition to the storyline. Kate is a well written character that I immediately fell in love with as she goes through many trying emotions, while Scott has his own dilemma’s to conquer. Ms. Shaw brings a village to life in this incredible story that reaches out and touches the heart. She leaves the reader with anticipation to read more of Kate and Scott’s journey. Her tender tale is refreshing and vibrant and I look toward more of her impeccable writings.
