Lydia Hoffman believes knitting saved her life. It got her through terrifying battles with cancer while undergoing chemo treatments. Learning how to knit changed her life. Lydia puts every cent she has into opening a yarn shop. Her family does not support her in the beginning, especially her sister Margaret. But as time goes on her family will discover that Lydia’s business is a great success.
Brad Goetz drives a UPS truck. He is divorced and has custody of his eight-year old son, Cody. He makes frequent deliveries to The Good Yarn, and soon he and Lydia are dating. When Brad’s ex-wife Janice demands a meeting and wants to reconcile, will Brad give up everything for his son?
Lydia’s knitting classes will change the lives of many, and form new bonds of friendships: Elise Beaumont, recently retired and her life savings lost in a scam, has been divorced from Maverick for thirty years and is a bitter woman; Bethanne Hamlin is trying to recover from a recent divorce. Her husband devastated her on Valentines Day by telling her he did not love her anymore. Her children, Andrew and Annie, have been distant since the divorce. Annie is putting herself in dangerous situations; Courtney Pulanski, overweight and depressed, is a teenager trying desperately to cope with the death of her mother. Her father decides to send Courtney to Seattle to live with her grandmother. Courtney is devastated to have to spend her senior year of high school in a strange place. Elise, Bethanne, and Courtney seem like a most unlikely trio to join Lydia’s knitting class. Will they survive this class and be civil towards each other? Will Lydia and Brad’s relationship develop further? Lydia’s sister and her family learn of something that could possibly destroy their family. Will they survive this setback? Lydia and Brad have many obstacles to get thru and move to the future. Can they do this?
Ms Macomber has written a wonderful story that shows how lives can be rebuilt. This book is heart-warming, and shows how relationships can change. I could not put this book down as every chapter developed more of each characters' personality and problems. This unlikely trio will form bonds that lasts a lifetime. It is a bittersweet story that will bring a smile to your face.
