Bethany is a young and beautiful woman with a secret ambition to become a novelist like the woman who wrote the current best seller, “Emma”. She has been the caregiver of an elderly woman since the age of sixteen and knows no other life.

David is an Earl and very important in the government. He is handsome and sought after and cannot refuse his sister anything, even sponsoring an unknown connection for the Little Season.

When Aunt Cordelia passes away, Bethany is left without a home or means of support. Cordelia’s niece is determined to find Bethany a husband, and Bethany is equally determined to find a publisher for her novel. Her host, David Greyle, is attracted to her at first sight but avoids her and the loss of his freedom that would inevitably follow, but he cannot fight fate forever.

This is a classically crafted Regency Romance with likable characters and an easy to follow plot. David’s avoidance of Bethany is a bit over the top at times, but I enjoyed the gradual building of the feelings between the two. Bethany is my favorite of a great cast of characters. She is caring without being too sweet, and her problem solving abilities definitely help the plot along.
