By night, Desiree is a woman who knows what she wants and what she wants is hot sex. By day, Desiree is known as Carly Winters, a furniture maker in a small town in northern Michigan. Carly lives a very quiet life in her hometown until one night changes everything.
Jake Lockhart is a cop. A transfer from Detroit to small town life in Michigan has Jake wondering if he is helping anyone. A quick sandwich at the local diner, and Jake comes face to face with the woman he cannot get out of his mind.
Two wounded souls and one night of passion seems like the perfect recipe to Carly. Keeping her identity secret with a drive to a different town when she needs to scratch an itch is extremely important to Carly. When the new town police officer shows up in the form of Jake, a man Carly had a ménage a trois with, she fears that her “dirty” little secret will be exposed. Jake sees a kindred spirit when he gets to know the Carly all the locals know. He shows her that even “good” girls can experience desires that may seem out of the ordinary, and that there is nothing for either of them to be ashamed of.
The fact that this book is set in an area that I am very familiar with certainly helped me visualize things more clearly, but the characters felt like friends I had known for years. Carly is the most relatable to me. Having grown up in a small town where everyone knows everyone, I found her being uncomfortable in her own skin to be the thing I understood best. The way Jake allows her to express her desires without judging her warmed my heart and made me fall for him even more. Ms. Alexander certainly knows how to capture a reader’s attention and have them enthralled within mere pages. I can honestly say that after reading this book, I will never look at a chocolate cream pie the same ever again.
Warning: This story is smokin’ hot! With red-hot sex and a couple of ménage scenes, this book is not intended for the faint of heart!
