Lady Marguerite Giffard has grieved three years for her husband, who had been nothing but a fool and spendthrift. After six months into their marriage, he was killed in a stupid duel. Making preparations for a ball, she hopes to meet someone.
Gunther von Wittersheim has some shipping business and interest in England. One glance at Marguerite and his heart melts. Unfortunately, he has an adversary.
Lady Marguerite Giffard is pretty good at reading men but after meeting Gunther she finds him an enigma. Gunther is mesmerized by Marguerite. She has a way of softening the cold iron inside his heart. There is no way he will ever get the beauty out of his mind. Comte de Condé sur Víre, Alphonse de Brunel, is not certain about the future but after being introduced to Marguerite, he wishes to know her better. Wanted by both men, Marguerite feels closer to Gunther. Alphonse wants her because she is valuable to Gunther. Playing a dangerous game, Gunther and Alphonse will do whatever it takes to win Marguerite. Will Gunther break all covenants to make sure Marguerite goes with him?
Breaking the Covenants is a story rich in character and scenery. The ambiance, surrounding the story, is enough to sweep the reader into a moving and endearing story that I fell in love, and hope to see more of. Rob Graham and Celina Summers create life-like characters that connect with the reader. I love Gunther and how he goes after the woman he loves. The scenes grab hold of the reader and keep them spellbound until the conclusion. The rivalry between Gunther and Alphonse weaves an excellent story of desire, and wits, to obtain the woman they want in their life. Wonderfully told, beautifully constructed, this is one story that I found captivating.
