Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most important, powerful, and ambitious women of her time. She married two kings and was the mother of three more.
Henry of Anjou was later known as Henry II of England. His marriage to Eleanor was turbulent and passionate. He was several years younger than his wife.
Eleanor of Aquitaine is one of the most famous of England’s Queens. Her fame outshone that of her much younger husband, Henry, and her first husband, Louis. Her life with Henry was both turbulent and passionate and her descendents would at one time rule much of Europe.
Ms. Weir skillfully blends history and fiction to create a story that should be true even if all of its aspects cannot be verified. Eleanor has always captured my imagination, and apparently the author agrees and has given the reader a wonderful story full of historical detail and colorful characters. Her life with the much younger Henry could not have been easy, and her strong character could be both an asset and detriment in a time where women had little power. The author takes historical facts and weaves them into a story the reader will not be able to put down.
