A crime scene, a hysterical neighbor, and a dead body; all in a day’s work for private investigator Kim Murphy. Once again the sexy trouble-magnet is at the forefront of a grisly murder investigation. At least this time, she is not the one who killed the victim. The last time was self-defence, but try telling that to the police. Now Kim has been hired by one of the suspects in the case, her neighbor Lindsay, in whose apartment the victim was found. Lindsay wants Kim to clear her name and to determine exactly why there was a dead guy in her apartment.

Easier said than done when the lead investigator is hotter-than-heck cop Grant Tompkins--who happens to work for Kim’s father, the chief of police. Add to that two SWAT-cop brothers who cannot seem to leave their baby sister alone, and Kim finds her investigation inconveniently muddled.

When Kim and Grant’s suspects begin disappearing or turning up dead, they find themselves in a race against time to solve the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice before Kim winds up on the dead suspects' list. She will need all the help she can get. And if Grant is willing to help her out on the friends-with-benefits front too, then it might just make this investigation tolerable.

Unfortunately I was not impressed by Death by High Heels. The clever twists one would expect of a book in this genre were simply not there, and I thought the “big reveal” at the end was a little silly. Much of the word count was eaten up by tangents which did little--if anything--to advance the plot. I am not even sure the main character, private investigator Kim Murphy, is in the right line of work; she came across as a bit too ditzy to be a private investigator, to be honest. At least I liked her--I do not think it was for the reasons I was supposed to like her, granted, but she was endearing nonetheless.
