Gracie Terrence, fiery haired teacher with a temper to match, fantasizes about her sexy neighbour, Steve, but cannot have him because of his fiancée. Even if he were single, she would never have a relationship with a ‘hero’ because her father died saving someone else’s life when she was just a child. In her opinion, heroes die too soon.
Steve Sheldon is a firefighter and recently separated from his fiancée, who not only dumped him because she thought his career too dangerous, but also had an affair with her boss. Because of this disappointment, he vows never to give up being single again. He thinks that he and his gorgeous neighbour, Gracie, should have a fling, especially after their ‘moment’ last summer.
Gracie cannot forget how aroused she got watching Steve make love with his fiancée in their backyard last summer. Nor that he had winked at her as she stood in her doorway with her pants around her ankles afterward. When she finds out he is now single, she plans to seduce him, not knowing he plans the same for her. Neither wants a long-term relationship, until after their night of soul-shattering sex, when she is injured in a car accident. Steve takes care of her during her recovery, and both realize how much they mean to each other. Can they overcome their individual prejudices and find a way to be together?
The sex in this book is red-hot, modern, and extremely realistic. Ms Keaton has written two very strong-minded characters that I can visualize very easily. The dilemma each faces as they work through the minefield they find themselves in is one I personally identify with, and I am sure others will too. How much should one risk in order to be happy? Give nothing and you gain nothing.
