Allie Robbins is a widow with a small son. He means everything to her, and she has come home to the only place she feels safe—her old home town.
Noah Sterling was Allie’s first love, and the end of their relationship sent him first into the military, then into law enforcement. He is now in the FBI’s anti-terrorist unit.
Allie is finally free of her husband, but is still on the run. Someone is determined to recover a flash drive with information on her late husband’s activities. She finally ends up in her hometown and comes face-to-face with the man she thought she would never see again—her son’s biological father, Noah. Noah is investigating the burning of churches in the area and Allie is a suspect due to her late husband. She is innocent, but things spiral beyond her control when her son is kidnapped and she must turn to the man she left ten years ago.
Ms. Atkins always provides the reader with an exciting and engrossing tale and this one is no exception. The suspense starts on the very first page and builds and builds throughout the very engrossing story. Noah and Allie have a lot of history and a child in common, but did not part on the best of terms. Rebuilding trust is not easy, especially since Noah did not know he was a father, and this heightens his distrust and suspicion of Allie. The characters are well-developed and interesting and the subject matter is very timely. Domestic terrorism is on everyone’s mind these days and the author has made the most of the suspense involved.
