Beth has always had a desire to be a commercial artist. She plans to get a degree and secure a job in her chosen field. At the age of eighteen, she leaves her home for Cincinnati where she weds Randy and has a child. Eventually their marriage falls apart and they divorce. Beth, with her son, returns to the Appalachian foothills and to the Black Panther she left behind.
The sleek Black Panther is the guardian and protector of Beth. Someone she once knew in another life. He only comes to her at times when there is trouble or big changes in her life. Around his neck, he wears a silver collar. The Black Panther belongs to no one and roams the foothills as a free spirit.
Since Beth was a little girl, she had heard tales about a big black panther that roams the foothills. On the night she loses her virginity to Randy, at the age of eighteen, she finally sees the panther but then he disappears again. At one point, Beth is filled with sorrow, feeling as if she has betrayed her panther by giving her love to Randy. Then years later after returning to the home of her father, Beth has a dream. In the dream, the mystery of who she and the panther once were comes to light. Unfortunately, the time is not right for them to be together. Eventually though, these two lovers will one day finally be reunited.
Ms. Hope has written a beautiful story about a love that transcends time. This story takes place over the life span of Beth and is never dull or slow moving. It is a wonderful, romantic story that you will not want to miss reading. I derived great pleasure from reading this book.
