Dr. Juliet Adams, an expert in high-altitude sickness, is determined to make it to the top of Mt. Everest. Before her lies, the most daunting task she has yet to undertake—not just the climb, but confronting the secrets within her heart. Her purpose is seeing that her fellow trekkers make the climb safely, but Finn McEwan’s presence provides a major distraction. What drives this petite woman to undertake such a dangerous challenge? Is it her goal or someone else’s? She would not have even considered going if she knew Finn would be there.
Finn McEwan, another doctor making the trek, fights his own demons. He never expects to see Juliet when he travels to Katmandu. He is a legend there because of the lives he has saved, but bad memories linger. Long ago, he lost a childhood friend to the climb… and the love of his live because of it. He’s not about to let it happen again.
Juliet travels to Mt. Everest to further her research on high-altitude sickness and its effects on climbers. Driven to the mountain by the loss of her brother, she is determined to reach the top for him. Old memories come flooding back with a vengeance when Finn McEwan enters her life again. Finn is determined to keep Juliet safe, and despite his declaration of love and devotion, Juliet keeps insisting that she never really loved him. She speaks the words, but does her heart agree?
High Altitude Doctor by Ms Morgan is intriguing. I cannot imagine what drives a person to risk their life to get to the top of a mountain. I know I would not do it, but there are many who do, as captured in the story. Ms. Morgan has done her homework about the effects of high-altitude on a person’s body. She capably lists them, complete with descriptions of the symptoms. Aside from the book’s impressing medical aspect, the heroine’s denial of her feelings for the hero is a captivating story line that hooks you and keeps you reading. You just have to discover if Juliet ever admits the truth to herself.
