Dr. Kate Holly is a psychologist with issues. She suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder. Her receptionist, Mona, has a few issues of her own. Kate is trying to repair her broken marriage, but a former beau/current colleague, Thad, is hoping for a second chance.
Jay Rush is captain at the local fire department. He is also Dr. Kate’s ex-husband who is hoping to become her husband again. Jay cannot handle Kate’s misadventures and heads to Florida to volunteer to help with the fire that is engulfing the Apalachicola National Forest.
Due to a severe case of hives, Mona is forced to take some time off. This leaves Dr. Kate to either call her mother, Dixie, in to help out at the office or call the temp agency. After a day with her mother, Kate calls the agency. With a down on her luck story, Abigail has Kate overlooking the odd feeling she gets when she first meets Abigail. When Abigail begins to exhibit odd and inappropriate behavior, Kate begins to rethink her decision.
What a delightful adventure into the crazy (pun intended) world of Dr. Kate Holly! The characters Ms. Hughes has created are full of colorful chaos. From Kate’s patients to her family and friends, each one is so different and zany. I challenge you to not laugh out loud as you read this book. I tried and failed miserably. There are not many authors who can combine romance, comedy and mystery in one book and make it work. Ms. Hughes has proven time and again that this formula works for her.
