Bethany Hinglebottom is an endearing soul who has had to face one form of bad luck or another of the years. Her mother blames it on Black Friday and Bethany is beginning to agree. The climactic moment was her one season in London when she was continuously in one embarrassing situation or another. Now years later Bethany is returning with trepidation but also with hope that the handsome man sitting across from her truly desired her enough to search her out and bring her to London with him.
Damien Charles Grant the Lord of Rutledge is a rake and scoundrel. He has been avoiding the marriage noose for years but his mother and her friends have become ruthless. Deciding to evade the prospects of being tied down forever, Damien creates a fictitious maiden only to find out she is very real. Now an innocent and alluring beauty has been brought into the fray, and he finds himself the one pursuing instead of being pursued.
His Unexpected Bride is a captivating from beginning to end. Bethany is a hidden beauty and Rutledge can set hers and the readers heart a flight. From the humorous escapades of Bethany and her bad luck and Rutledge’s complete lack of manners and common sense at times gives the readers and enjoyable look back into what might London have been like from these two lively and truly captivating characters.
I truly enjoyed my first time reading Jodici Belle and hopefully will see more of her captivating romances in the future. From her competent descriptions of the times while using modern English and only a few Older English terms but defiantly known phrases she doesn’t loose the reader or make you feel inadequate while enjoying London of old.
