Maggie Duncan is a forty-plus year old woman who, with the help of her friend, Brenda, is attempting to get over the death of her mother. Things take a very eventful turn when she meets a gorgeous man at the local convenience store. The heat is turned up when a gorgeous police officer, Bruce “Red” Herring, comes to her rescue.
Lorenzo Pazzazzi is a famous Italian opera singer who is hiding from a group called The Green Socks Gang—environmental activists. This group is after Pazzazzi’s money. In his attempt to hide, Pazzazzi introduces himself to Maggie as Stavros, a Greek man with a taste for the finer things in life.
When the papers report Pazzazzi is a no-show for a concert, the picture is of the man Maggie knows as Stavros. As she was hurried from his house, Maggie left her purse behind. Believing “Stavros” is in danger and the kidnappers have all of her identifying information, Maggie flees her home. With help from Brenda, Maggie sets out to solve the mystery of the missing opera singer and the packages containing green socks that keep arriving for her. Will she be able to foil the plans of The Green Socks Gang?
Maggie has such a penchant for finding trouble. I challenge you to not fall in love with this character. This cast is full of such surprises as the tale journeys on. The wit found between the covers will keep you in stitches. I found myself shaking my head at the antics of Maggie and Brenda. If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, yet keep you on the edge of your seat with mystery, then this is the book for you.
