Dani Cole is a detective in Lancaster, Maryland. Surviving on the force is hard for Dani because her father was a dirty cop and Chief Gibson expects her to be just like him. She is nothing like her old man. Dani is a caring and compassionate person, even if she does not let anyone else see that side of her.
James Mitchell Sheridan, Mitch to those who know him best, grew up in a very loving family. Mitch is a photojournalist, intent on saving the world since the one day he let go of his little sister's hand. She darted out into the street and when their father followed behind her in order to save her, he was hit and killed. He died in Mitch's sixteen year-old arms.
A killer is running loose in Lancaster. Six young women are paying for sins of another mother they know nothing about. Dani had helped one of these girls to begin righting the wrongs in her life. When Russell Sanders, Mitch’s father figure and mentor, is found dead of an apparent suicide, Mitch wants to prove it is murder. Throwing Dani back in his life is just an added plus for Mitch. Together, they work with the police and FBI to find the person who is killing these women. Maybe, just maybe, more than one life can be saved by their efforts.
This story moves at such a fast pace with a plethora of characters that I did not notice how much I had read until I turned the final page. Dani and Mitch are a couple who belong together in many obvious ways. She needs to be taken care of, though she will not admit it and he needs to take care of her like he was unable to do years ago. This may be the second book in the series, but it is a stand-alone read. Ms. Brady managed to make the hair stand up on the back of my neck more than a few times as she took me on a roller-coaster ride of terror and suspense.
