Finora is a Selkie. Her late husband Bran stole her skin to keep her with him and subsequently died. She has no idea where the skin is and longs for the sea. She has two children and is a lighthouse keeper.
Trystan is part werewolf and part badger and far from the mountains he calls home. He and his travelling companions are searching for a dragon when pirates attack their ship.
When a werewolf on a quest is shipwrecked in Lighthaven, he meets and falls in love with a Selkie princess. The two are from different worlds, one tied to the mountains and one to the sea, and this is not all they have to overcome.
This is a very inventive story. She takes two creatures who are similar yet totally different and makes their romance work. Trystan is unique on his own, I have never heard of a badger shifter, but was intrigued. The author gives good descriptions of her version of were and selkie culture and combines them with a compelling plot that kept my interest from the first page to the last. Her characters are very vivid and the author’s description of their lives and emotions really enhanced the story. This Guardians of Light story makes me want to read the next as soon as it comes out.
