Marly Fine is a hairdresser who embraces her Democratic right to be a bohemian, liberal free spirit. She works hard alongside her partners to make their salon, After Hours, a success. Unfortunately, this does not leave a lot of free time for dating, or even sleep. When she meets the governor, she does not even have time to blink before she is in over her head. Will she be head over heels just as fast?

Jack ‘The Hammer’ Hammersmith is the Governor of Florida, and a staunch Republican. However, party lines will be crossed if he has any say about it. He knows that Marly is "the one", he just has to make her see it too. Can his best filibuster get through to her cynical heart?

When a political prince woos a hairdresser, sparks fly, along with the hair clippings. Jack knows Marly is the one for him, but when he tells her, she does not believe him. However, he did not get elected by calling it quits. Will Marly go to the ‘Dark Side’ and become a Republican, or can she pull Jack just far enough to the left so they meet in the middle? Surely, she cannot resist the sexiest man she has ever met, even if he happens to be out of his mind.

I loved that the hero was so sure of his feelings and only needed to convince her, and for such a romantic reason too. Dating is complex enough, but in the spotlight, it becomes a comedy of errors that does not fail to satisfy. Jack’s quirky humor and engagingly sweet, yet still alpha, attitude was perfectly rendered and he is surely the hottest ticket running. Marly is a realistically written woman, not a girl. The supporting characters were wickedly funny, especially Fuzzy the cat. The dialogue was laugh out loud funny and to say the sex is smoking would be the understatement of the year. The author makes a buttoned down suit sexy and puts a new spin on the prince and the peasant in this politically hysterical love story. This is the second installment of the After Hours series by Ms Kendall, and I am impatiently waiting until the next.
