paranormal romantic suspense
Rating: 4 Cups
Alexandra Sinclair vows never to return to the music industry she left years ago for reasons she would rather not discuss. Then, seemingly against her will, she finds herself agreeing to a trial run as a lyricist for an illustrious rock group. Hoping this is just the aftermath of a personal crisis, she intends to return to her stable life as a columnist as soon as the provisional period ends.
Cole Gunnerrson, born a Viking warrior, is an ancient Vampyre and the lead singer for the sinfully popular band, Stolen Innocence. He needs Alex's talent to keep his band in the spotlight and provide cover to the world for his unusual lifestyle. Upon first sight, Cole decides he must have Alexandra for himself as well as for the band.
Unknowingly, Alex has just become entangled in the world of an elusive serial killer bent on exposing his own kind to the human world. And she may very well be the next victim. Cole has been enlisted by the Vampyre Task Force to track down and stop a Rogue targeting human females. It is no longer just business for Cole, he needs to stop this monster before he destroys the mortal who holds his heart.
Ms. Huber composes a romantic vampyre ballad full of suspense. The chemistry between the hero and heroine is electric. I love that we can see so much from Cole's past, as it goes a long way in explaining his actions and motives. However, I do not think the reason for his violent, jealous outburst is sufficiently explained. Alex is a wounded but strong woman; someone we all hope to be. The secondary characters are fantastic. I cannot wait to read Styx's story -- that sexy Spaniard already owns a piece of my heart. The turbulent, fast-paced plot leaves the readers holding their breath while turning the page. For me, there are not enough clues to legitimately rule out or include characters to be the actual killer. But this is a solid paranormal suspense.
