Annie Scott moved permanently to El Dorado community on the Baja peninsula when her husband Joel died. She wrote when she wanted, and joined in community outings when she wanted. She had her dog Rocky to protect her. Until recently, she had not had any men in her life. Nor had she wanted any. Now there were three newcomers to her little community. All single gentlemen and they vied for her attention. But the one man she was attracted to was a local police officer.
Luis Martinez Garcia had been married one time before, and she had been American. He vowed he would never fall for another gringo. Besides, his superiors frowned on any involvement with the growing American Community in the El Dorado Community. Despite that, he had become friends with a few Americans. When he attends a housewarming party, he meets Annie and from that point on, against his better judgment, he is attracted to the American woman.
Annie and Luis reluctantly become involved when she finds a dead woman in the desert. Unfortunately, there are no clues to follow. When the police discover another body, the madman has written something in the sand. The only word not washed away was the word 'artist'. As they follow the leads, Luis discovers that Annie is in danger. Will he be able to figure out who the murderer is in time?
Ms. Allen has created a suspenseful tale of intrigue and international murder. She leads the reader on a nail biting journey. I could not help but turn the page to see what was coming next. If you like suspense, I would recommend this story.
