FBI Special Agent Julia Last runs a safe house for injured officers and protective witnesses. She has been very inconspicuous in keeping everything safe until someone dies inside the secured home. When she becomes the possible next victim, Deputy Hemmings steps in offering her protection. Unfortunately, being snowed in with the officer stirs tensions as they try to solve the crime before the killer strikes again.

Deputy Paul Hemmings has his hands full trying to protect his two daughters from any harm while learning all there is to know about a young girl's makeup. After someone targets a military General, then aims for an FBI agent, he has even more trouble when a heated passion sizzles for the woman he must protect.

After eleven years with the FBI, Julia is tired of being treated like a housemaid. She is the agent in charge of the Safe House and she wants to be treated with respect. When one of her protected guests is found dead with a suicide note, a cloud of suspicion darkens Julia; she believes it was murder. Deputy Paul Hemmings arrives and Julia expresses her doubts about the death and feels she is the next target. Paul decides the only way to protect her is to stay by her side. She asked him to keep her secret safe about the Safe House. In the midst of being hunted, Julia finds herself drawn to this rugged, yet tender man. When they begin to feel the stirring heat, each wonders will anything become of their situation before the assassin silences them, too.

Murder On The Mountain is a captivating and thrilling read that leaves the reader spellbound. Paul and Julia make a terrific couple as they try to fight their heated attraction while searching for a killer. Ms. Miles pens an intriguing read that excites and delights. Her writing is sharp and intense with crisp dialogue that makes this book a magnificent delight.
