The instinct to survive is one that very few people have to put to the test, but Dr. Tess Lockhart becomes the exception in the extreme. Whisked off her planet by aliens she had no clue even existed, and then forced to tend to a zoo full of bizarre alien species, Tess’ survival instinct has become a well-honed skill.
Generations of tradition gone in the blink of an eye, along with nearly every one of his tribe members including his family, is a crushing blow for Roan Lowenthal. His captivity only heightens his sense of despair, but under the skillful care of Tess, his otherwise worthless life is saved.
Roan is the closest thing to human that Tess has encountered since her capture and subsequent work for the Norans’. They have stolen species from across the galaxy, and dumped them into a zoo for their own personal amusement, but the Nightflyer Roan is decidedly different. The more time she spends with him, the smaller those differences seem until she is faced with an unfathomable situation. The journey they share is fraught with conflict and discord at every instance, but the bond they have created will need to have unheard of strength to survive.
This story is an exploration of the senses. The settings are masterfully described, the emotions intense, and the heart pounding anticipation envelop you right from the beginning. Roan, Tess, as well as her friend Arnie, warm your heart with their honesty and bring tears to your eyes with their pain. Nightflyers is a beautifully skilled work of vividly depicted characters and the soul-searching journey they take to find home.
