Katie Chandler is a Manhattan mortal who is an executive assistant at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc. She has two downfalls, a certain pair of shoes with her name on them and hunky, Owen, a co-worker.

Owen Palmer works where Katie is trying to smoke out a mole. He is very pre-occupied with his job.

Katie is an ordinary small town gal from Texas who moves to New York and finds women with fairy wings, gargoyles, gnomes and pointed ear creatures. She wonders if she will fit in. Katie is not influenced by the magic of others but she gets weak in the knees around Owen. She can accept Merlin as her boss and having a fairy in her office but she would love to have a normal family. After Merlin of King Arthur days hires her to smoke out a mole within MSI before the magic is used as evil instead of good, she finds herself bewitched by a pair of red stilettos. Since Kate is immune to magic, Merlin hopes she can expose the spy but her magic immunity could put her in danger. When the spell of the stilettos has men falling at her feet and changing her social life, she must make time to locate the mole as she and Owen begin to discover their own spell.

Once Upon Stilettos is a humorous read. The charming story with all the magic of Merlin and other creatures really spin with electricity. Katie is so captivating; the reader cannot help but wish to be in her shoes. Owen is a warm enigmatic character. Ms. Swendson has a winner that keeps on ticking. She puts the reader amidst the magic and makes everything come to life. She pens a deliciously funny fantastic tale.
