Romantic Suspense
Rating: 4 Cups
Amy Russell works as ship superintendent at the Electric Boat Shipyard. She has the lucky position of working to correct a small problem on the USS Hartford. Even luckier for her is the fact that she has to work with the ship’s straight-laced commander. However, when she gets on the submarine, she learns that his military training is about to come in handy.
Commander Darius McCann has been in the Navy for so long he really does not know how to live outside that arena. When he meets Amy, he is taken aback by her questioning his orders. This does not prevent him from noticing her in ways neither will have time for very soon. Both will have to focus on one thing very soon. Survival.
When Amy and Darius go to the submarine to fix a minor glitch, they have no idea that their lives are in danger. After hijackers take over the submarine, Darius knows he has to do whatever it takes to save his men, Amy, and even more importantly, to protect the security of the United States. While the duo is fighting to sabotage the hijacker’s plans, they become closer. Is this a case of adrenaline rush, or could the relationship develop into much more? If they cannot stop the terrorists, they will never get a chance to find out. During this time, Lieutenant Colonel Sarah Connelly and Commander Bruce Dunn must race the clock to find out who is behind the espionage. They must find out the facts in time to save the crewmembers on board a sub headed straight up the eastern seaboard. Due to Darius’ ancestry, he is the prime suspect. But sometimes you have to go straight to the top to get to the bottom of a mystery.
This taut, fast paced military thriller plays on the dark cramped space of a submarine to deliver a wonderfully engrossing mystery. The switch between the two investigating the problem and the two trying to solve it is seamless and makes for a much richer read. The romance is one that is real, emotionally written, and ultimately satisfying. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a military mystery with dark political overtones.
