The only place where Jane Frederickson feels completely comfortable is in her lab. The rest of the world fades away, and she can forget the horrors outside of her walls.
Hacking into her computer is Slade Johnson’s first step toward something that may have the ability to finally put the Renegades one step ahead of Sanctuary. It also puts him in the direct path of a life altering event that rivals his conversion to vampirism.
Jane is dumb struck, and for a genius, that is something she very seldom experiences. Her flirty little computer hacker is a total hunk, and way out of league for a nerdy science geek, but that turns out to be the least of their differences. Vampires and werewolves are completely outside of Jane’s reality, but the dying child that Slade wants her to save is all too familiar. Jane’s research has put the ultimate price on her head, and even if she could entertain the idea of forever with Slade, the odds are they will not have a tomorrow.
All work and no play make Jane a very lonely girl, but her heart is as big as her IQ. The sparring between Jane and Slade shows just what a firecracker she is, and I love how she matches Slade word for word. Slade is definitely a man who appreciates everything above and below Jane’s shoulders, but Jane’s hesitancy to believe him makes her all the more real. Their kisses may be hotter than sin, but the love they have for family, friends, and each other is what makes this story worth every moment.
