Alan Chevalier is a divorced, homicide detective and his personal life is a mess. His younger sister is missing and his two other sisters are on his case. Also, the wife of his captain wants him. He needs to make some life changes or he might end up on the wrong side of a bottle of booze. In addition, Molly, the sister of the murder victim he is investigating, is determined to help him find who killed her sister.
Molly Laraway, a lawyer, has come to New Orleans to learn more about the death of her twin sister Claire. They look a lot alike, but have opposite personalities. Even though Molly tends to lean toward a more sophisticated man, after meeting Alan, she finds herself intrigued by his rumpled, earthy personality.
Molly arrives in New Orleans seeking answers to the death of her sister and soon finds she has come to care for the lead detective in the case. Alan has problems in his life and his growing attraction to Molly seems to be adding to them. What else, in both his professional and personal life, can go wrong before he buries himself permanently in a bottle of booze? Then Alan makes a foolish mistake that might cost him his chance at a lifetime of happiness.
This story is not only a suspenseful drama about the search for a killer, but also a story about the complexities people face daily in their lives. Ms. Carrington gives us an interesting peek into the struggle of one man trying to make some sense out of the chaos he has allowed his life to become. This was an intriguing story that I got great pleasure in reading. Make sure not to miss getting this book.
