Adam Neil Grogan believes in his heart that Opal likes him a little. He is the type of person who will do anything to protect his family, even if it means side with Opal.

Opal Speck does not take too kind to anyone making accusations about her family. She will go through any length to protect her family, even if it means betraying them.

Opal and Adam realize unless they can find out what is happening to the sick cows, a feud will start in the families. Neither wants that to occur since they share feelings for each other. Opal takes matters into her own hands, especially since she feels she owes Adam for saving her life two years prior. She confesses that she is carrying Adam’s child. Shocked, her father immediately gets the preacher. When Adam’s parents hear about the marriage, things take on a wild spin for the newly married couple. Can Adam and Opal keep the peace within their families while discovering their love for each other?

I like the way The Bride Backfire unfolds with the families and the tension between each of them. Adam and Opal’s expressions certainly make the read entertaining, as one is not certain what the other will do. They emit a wide range of emotions that the reader can visualize. I was kept glued as the family members heard the news of Opal being with child, then the marriage event. The families put up a good struggle with the newlyweds, as Opal tries to work as mediator between them. She has guts to stand up to that brew, as well as the tenacity and boldness to do such. Kelly Eileen Hake composes an enjoyable read as the action spins a refreshing yarn that packs a punch.
