Selene Blackburn is leaving behind her old life of fashion and modeling and starting a new adventure. When she inherits a house from her uncle, she leaves New York for secluded Scarlatti Manor in Carmel.
Dominic Scarlatti is waiting for her when Selene arrives. The enigmatic man oozes self-confidence and sensual awareness. From the moment he meets the beautiful woman, Dominic somehow begins to seduce and scare Selene as an air of danger and desire surround him.
From the instant she stepped into the house, Selene was conscious of a feeling of apprehension that made her want to turn back the way she had come. Shaking off the sensation, she soon becomes accustomed to the strange happenings, of creaks and groans and things that go bump in the night. It is not long though before Selene questions her own sanity. Someone is out to control her body and soul and she is not sure if it is the seductive man or someone else entirely. Clues lead her to the realization that Dominic may not be entirely human.
The Immortals by Ms. Mauro is a book full of ups, downs, twists, turns, and curves that left my head reeling. Sometimes I enjoyed the way the story fell and left me on the edge of my seat. Other times I was so confused I was not sure what in the world was even going on. Sometimes Selene is so smart and figures things out that I could not possibly connect, and other times, she cannot even work out the puzzle that is right beneath her nose. This tale is an interesting read that mixes romance with a Stephen King like novel and will leave you with a shocking end.
