THE LAST THING I EXPECTED
HEATHER RAE SCOTT
Rating: 4 Cups
Grace Adams always joked her luck ran bad, but when one of her student’s mothers told her her aura was cursed, she feared it was true. Carrying out a Pennsylvania Dutch ritual, her klutzyness manifested itself. Coming to the rescue when smoke billows from under her door, is none other than her high school crush, Hunky Eddie.
Eddie Lorenzo Mancilla is a firefighter and former fat kid who happens to live across the hall from his secret crush, Grace. Changing his appearance with dieting and exercise had not alleviated his insecurities when it came to Grace.
Grace and Eddie begin the dance of awareness, their friends and family seeing their feelings written all over their faces. Both are stubborn and blind to what is right across the hall, until they are locked accidentally in a closet. Will they ever admit their love for one another?
Ms. Scott has written a cute love story about good friends carrying secret torches. Grace can only be described as self conscious, always second guessing her decisions, until she is forced to assert herself. Eddie is a fat kid in a thin suit, at least in his mind he is, achieving a lot in his life while failing to recognize the hole in his heart. Their interactions are both sweet and shy, and bold and aggressive, plainly showing their hidden passion for each other. I got caught up in their story and finished it in one sitting. I enjoyed it and recommend it to any reader who needs a change.
