Eve is an up and coming pastry chef whose reputation could be made if she impresses the world’s cooking elite at a ball. She really needs to perform well for Christian Grier, the editor of a bestselling gourmet magazine. Eve does not know that he is also “Kris”, an owner of the up-scale BDSM club, where she caters while wearing a mask.
Kris, at the invitation of his college roommate, brings his investigative reporter, Stephanie, to cover the event. He is thrilled when he realizes his caterer is there serving scrumptious food. Kris is thrilled to see her and is not going to let her go.
Both Eve and Kris are shocked to see each other, though they are getting so turned on it is a distraction from Eve displaying the dessert that could make or break her. Will they be able to keep their hidden lives under their “masks”, or will the excitement of the evening become too much and force the couple to reveal themselves?
The Mask is a book based on sexual attraction and hidden identities that is very charming. I enjoyed the book for the food as much as I did the romance. The sexual tension between the Eve and Kris was excellently done. The support characters were good with the sequel well established. The dialogue fit each character and gave them dimension, it truly made the book. The quick pace of the book caused a few logic jumps, but the story was clever and sexy. Hopefully the sequel comes out soon.
