THE PIGEON PIE MYSTERY
Rating: 4 Cups
Indian Princess, Alexandrina, loses everything when her father dies under not so ordinary circumstances. An exiled Maharaja, he has lived like a king instead of a deposed monarch, leaving Mink with no choice but to sell everything to pay off his debts. With no other place to go, she and her remaining servant, Pooki, take up residence in a grace and favor house from the Queen.
Becoming one of the notorious residents in Hampton Court Palace takes some getting used to. Not only is the ancient structure rumored to be haunted. It also lacks any of the luxuries of modern-day living. Mink and Pooki are managing to make the best of things until a General-Major dies after eating one of Pooki’s pies.
Mink refuses to lose Pooki after so much has already been taken. Determined to clear her friend, Mink launches her own investigation into the General-Major’s murder. As she peels back the layers of Hampton Court Palace, Mink unearths a lifetime’s worth of secrets. Perhaps taking the Queen up on her generous offer is not the safest option after all.
Filled with tidbits of history and culture from both India and England, this lively story is a treat for mystery lovers. Readers will enjoy Mink’s tenacity and spunk as she picks up the pieces of her life and still manages to keep her sense of humor intact. I look forward to reading many more of Ms. Stuart’s books.
