A late medical administration meeting delays Solaina Leandre’s departure to the cottage she rented on the seashore. It is very late; she is tired and fighting to stay awake. To occupy her mind, she listens to her favorite CD and pictures her ideal man—the one she hopes to meet some day. She certainly did not expect that she would literally run into him along this dark stretch of road. When she hears a nauseating thud, she fully expects to find a deer or a kouprey, but instead she discovers a badly injured man.

Handsome, tall and blond, but unfortunately bloody, Dr. David Gentry is a well-known surgeon recently affiliated with the International Medical Outreach. His leaving caused speculation that resulted in some of the financial backers withdrawing their funding and lending their support to Gentry’s own hospital instead. The last thing he remembers is waking up in a jungle thicket, suffering from a gunshot wound and wondering if it is his time to die. Somehow he musters up the strength to make it to the nearby roadway and throw himself into a passing car.

During the healing process, Solaina and David find themselves attracted to one another. Conversation about IMO makes her suspect that her father, the president of the organization, may be behind David’s injuries. She has a long list of issues with her male parent. David fears that his presence in Solaina’s home puts her in jeopardy, so he disappears without an explanation, leaving her to wonder why. Solaina is not about to be a woman scorned so she tracks him down.

Set in Australia, The Surgeon’s Rescue Mission by Dianne Drake is very entertaining. It combines sexual attraction, suspense, romance and just a touch of humor all together in a nice read. The beginning pages where David is struggling to awaken from his injuries in the depths of a jungle totally pulled me into the story, but it only took a little while before becoming sidetracked. I have to say that the ending was quite a stunner. Ms. Drake has a great flare for keeping you guessing and then surprising you. You’ll enjoy her story.
