Genealogist Torie O’Shea just learned that she is sole heir of the Gaheimer house and all the contents after her mentor dies. When Torie sorts through Sylvia’s belongings, she comes across a strange postcard dated from 1930 that reads, ‘I think you have forgotten your promise.’ After strange happenings begin in the house, it is up to Torie to find answers.

Sylvia Pershing, boss and mentor of Torie, dies at the age of 102 years and had decided the best person to inherit her legacy is Torie, because no matter their age difference, Torie was a dear friend.

Torie is surprised that Sylvia has passed away, but more so that she is left with all her belongings. Now many of the townspeople are envious because she inherited all the valuables. It appears her friends are not as dear as she imagined. Torie hears noises in the house and someone tries to attack her. After finding a postcard postmarked from 1930 and some photos of a little girl, Torie searches for answers about Sylvia. She thought she knew everything about the woman, but as she investigates further she finds that things are not what they appear. To make matters worse, her meddling mother-in-law continues to be bothersome, and someone is determined to get rid of Torie because of the legacy.

Thicker Than Water is a spellbinding story with fascinating characters, splendid historical information, and a tightly written plot. I liked Torie’s strength and fortitude, the way she insisted upon finding answers while still taking care of her family. Rett MacPherson is a talented author. I love her style of writing. She blends a story that takes the reader right into the center of the action. This story is thoroughly splendid. It is my first by Ms. MacPherson and definitely not my last.
