London in the year 1700 is one of the world’s greatest cities where fortunes are made and spent. However, for the poor, London is a rat’s nest of mean streets stinking from sewage and offal, where life is cheap. With little charity around, a person can soon sink in to poverty, then starvation, and finally death.
Michael and Sean are two ex-soldiers, down on their luck and desperate for any work. A chance encounter leads them to offer to murder a rich man for a high fee, leaving his young widow free to marry the man she loves. In a time when there is no effective policing, they believe they can kill and easily escape retribution.
But they learn to their cost that nothing is ever simple. Betrayal and danger lurk in the dark alleyways...
