Country Boy, City Girl

Author(s): Cynthianna

Veronica "Ronnie" Hawthorn has found peace at last in the Missouri Ozarks town of Green Springs, excited at the prospect of running her own arts-and-crafts store in an old farm house. But when city girl Ronnie "falls" into her handsome neighbor's arms, she is surprised to discover that country boy Dave Darden is one of the most eligible bachelors in America.

An earthquake, rumbling deep inside a cavern, brings the two together--but will Dave's meddling in Ronnie's business activities only drive them apart?

Excerpt

Ronnie exhaled slowly and took in a deep, cleansing breath, willing herself to relax the uneasiness in her body. Dave’s closeness was causing her to tremble inside more than any geological activity ever could. She needed to get up and move as far away from him as possible, but she couldn’t help herself. She found herself melting against his strong, solid hold, never wanting to be let go. She laid her head against his heart and took comfort in its pounding rhythm.
Dave’s hands continued to caress her unwound hair, roaming freely from her lower back to her hips and back again. Her mind freed itself from its shackles of pride. Ronnie pressed her body tight against his growing desire, one hand grasping at his shoulders, the other stroking his strong chin.
“You sure do like to surprise me, don’t you?” Dave said with a shaky breath. Ronnie’s green eyes flamed, intense with passion. He returned her fervent gaze with one of his own. “I thought you told me you didn’t want me interfering in ‘your business’.”
“My business, yes, but my personal affairs…” she murmured against his cheek, her finger trailing the line of his jaw to his full lips. “Well, my personal affairs are an entirely separate matter.”
He gently cradled her face with both hands. “But what if I say I’m not that sort of fella?”
Ronnie bit her lip in puzzlement. “You’re not?”
“Yes, I’m different. If you truly want me, Ms. Hawthorn, you have to take the entire package—my meddling and my trying to get you to see things my way. I’m an ‘all or nothing’ type of guy. Can you accept that?” Dave eagerly searched her face for any hint of fear or reservation. She gave her answer in the form of a slow and sensual kiss.
“I’ll take that as a ‘yes’,” he moaned against her lips.
His hands slid further down the outlines of her curves. If there were any aftershocks after the day’s small earthquake, Ronnie never noticed. One minute they were holding each other close, playfully kissing and caressing each other, and the next they were spreading the picnic blanket out along a smooth, flat portion of the cave’s floor. Ronnie’s hands eagerly reached for her lover’s shirt buttons, exposing his sturdy chest, while his hands easily removed her bandanna, sweatshirt and bra. Her moans reverberated through the hollow mountain as he bent his head low, tickling her exposed breasts with his tongue, teasing the nipples into twin peaks of desire.
“You city girls are so well-educated,” Dave moaned, sighing as she cupped one of his nipples and returned the favor with equal enthusiasm. “But we don’t have to go any further than what we’re doing now. I didn’t quite bring everything necessary for a romantic rendezvous, if you catch my drift.”
Ronnie averted her eyes and pulled away. “I understand. You weren’t expecting some sex-starved widow to take advantage of you. I know I’m not Tammi Hart.”
“God, I’m glad you’re not!” he cried, pulling her closer. “Why would I want some spray-painted pop icon when I have a rare work of art in you?” He entwined his hand in her undone hair and crushed his lips against hers, quieting all fears of inadequacy.
Dave finds me more enticing than Tammi.Ronnie sighed. She wasn’t his second choice. He truly wanted to be with her as much as she had wanted to be with him since their very first kiss. She felt contented, blissfully released, no longer forced to rein in her emotions.
“Are you sure you want to continue with what we’re doing?” Dave whispered hoarsely after another eternity of tasting and stroking the satiny smoothness of her skin. He lay on his side, his head propped up on his elbow, watching with enraptured interest as Ronnie sat up to untie her shoes and remove her jeans.
The seriousness of his tone sent a lightning bolt of alarm tingling through her stimulated body. Ronnie shook her head, then turned and looked Dave straight in the eye. She had never felt so certain of anything in her life. “Yes, I do.”
