At the hottest new club on the Vegas strip, Cambion, things aren’t what they seem. When Angelica Sterling is dragged there by her friend she doesn’t expect to make it past the velvet rope. She’s not model thin or beautiful. As she’s standing outside the black and chrome exterior begins to alter and inside the blatant sexuality is a shock. But the look the owner of the club gives her makes her inner demons disappear.
Demon has his own demons he battles. One look at the chocolate haired temptress and he is willing to break his vow never to take another woman to his bed.
When a Demon and an Angel meet sparks are sure to fly.
Demon watched her turn and start down the steps. He took the half step forward and grabbed the door before it could slam shut, drawn by the wave of pain and sadness that came from the woman. He watched her make her way down the stairs, occasionally she would raise a hand to her face.
He hated reading people, always feeling that it was an invasion of their deepest selves the part they hid from everyone. Sometimes even from themselves. However, the wave of sadness and pain that came from the woman as she started down the stairs, pulled his mind to hers. Expecting to find anger, the self-recriminations on the surface of her thoughts had him sucking in a breath. He allowed himself to slip deeper into her thoughts. The condescension and ridicule she had received from others triggered anger and a desire to defend her. Her hurt at his perceived rejection tore at him.
He watched as she sat on one of the bottom stairs. The sound of a hiccupped sob and a sniff echoed in the stairwell. Dear God, she was crying. Never in his unnaturally long life had he ever made a woman cry. With the link still forged between their minds, he couldn’t even attempt to delude himself that he wasn’t the cause.
Demon knew he could do nothing to completely erase the self-doubt she carried within her, but perhaps he could do something about her lack of belief in her own beauty. His lips quirked up in a smile, after all he was a Cambion, the child of a succubus and mortal. He let the door close, as soon as the sound reached the woman she stood and looked up. Her deep brown eyes widened and her brows furrowed as she stared up at him.
“I’ll help you. Find your friend, or a phone or whatever.” Demon wanted to slap his forehead for the lameness of that statement, but started down the stairs.
“Whatever?” Her voice cracked, her eyes narrowed, and her dark eyebrows had shot up under the bangs.
Time to start. “This is after all a club that caters to its patrons every sexual fantasy, Angel.”
Uh-oh wrong thing to say.
“How did you know my name? I’m certain I never told you.”
Now her voice was cold anger. Definitely not the tone he wanted, nope he wanted that voice husky with passion.
Smooth, Demon, real smooth. Smooth as a dragon’s ass.
“My name. You called me Angel. How did you know my name?”
He almost laughed in relief but caught himself in time. “I called you Angel, because you look like one.” He continued down the stairs stopping on the one above him.
“Pfft.” She rolled her eyes.
He hadn’t expected that reaction. Most women he had met would have smiled, blushed or told him he was being overly kind. Despite the mind link, this woman still managed to surprise him. No relying on the tried and true seduction techniques he’d used a century ago. Then it hit him that she’d said her name was Angel and he began to laugh.
“Do. Not. Laugh. At. Me.” Each word was punctuated with a stomp of her foot. Each stomp of her foot caused her breast to jump in the confines of the corset.
His laughter ended on a loud cough, his eyes were riveted to the flesh jiggling above the corset. “Oh Angel, don’t do that or I wouldn’t be able to explain.”
“Stop staring at my… chest.”
“Darlin’ that’s a hard request for a man to honor.” He forced his eyes to leave the tempting soft swell of her breast and move up to her eyes. “I was laughing because my name is Demon.”
